Meeting the needs of nonprofits with OPF web services

The OPF Internet based business service enables organizations to communicate and disseminate information more efficiently and effectively through Intranet/Extranet functionality. The hosted service provides organizations a private web-intranet where information can be viewed, modified, managed, and instantly published by nontechnical users from any web-connected computer.

The Intranet/Extranet service is similar to a private website for internal use. An intranet allows a nonprofit organization to share and access information among staff members. For example, documents such as forms, procedures, a contact directory, organizational chart, and manuals. Unlike a traditional website, the OPF intranet service requires no special technical skills to publish or access this information. The information can be viewed from any Internet-connected computer. Nonprofits can also use the service as an Extranet to publish information to their volunteers, boards, and constituents. In the future, the intranet/extranet service can be expanded to support additional applications like email, messaging services, collaboration services, external website support and simplified business applications such as donor management and financial tools.

The Intranet/Extranet service is a hosted service operated by OfficePlease Foundation. OPF serves many nonprofits from one large system rather than each nonprofit owning and operating their own systems. This approach is extremely cost effective and at the same time allows nonprofits with no technical staff to have the benefits of an intranet/extranet.

The OPF hosted Internet based business service requires only Internet access and a browser. Extensive information technology (IT) knowledge or complex maintenance agreements are not required. People with no technical experience can quickly learn the Service's many features and then concentrate on other urgent responsibilities.

The maintenance of an IT system requires as large a commitment as the purchase and implementation. Many nonprofits don't have the staff or training to perform the necessary ongoing maintenance of a technology system. With OPF nonprofits don't have to be concerned with system upgrades, backups, or other time consuming tasks that require technical expertise.

The OPF staff and volunteers provide nonprofits the on-going training, support and maintenance of the system.
